The best hotel room hack I know lets you unlock the AC so you can get some actual cool air.
Wow, saving this video. Thanks!
I’ve never needed this. But I feel like those for witch this is mind blowing could also have paid a couple of bucks for a clamp from the hardware store and put that in their luggage.
why do that when those are there for free and hardly used? I guess it is better to have your own clamps, in case the particular hotel you might be staying at has different types of hangers that don’t have clamps.
Yes everyone remembers the niche circumstance-specific irritation when they get back home, especially those who hotel infrequently.
This is a cool tip, and I appreciate it.
Oh yeah I appreciate the creativity and the lateral thinking that went into this.
I’ve never seen the problem that causes this as I’m insensitive to light and can sleep with any lighting condition.
But if someone was too experience this frequently enough to come up with this solution, there would be a way more straight forward (and consistent) way to solve this.
Or just a clothes peg.
You carry clothes pegs?
Sure, it’s legal in my country.
Or maybe carry a couple chipclips
why? they’re free at the hotel closet
All of them?
Just overlap the curtains?
many hotels cheap out and have crappy curtains that are designed in such a way that it can’t be overlapped
which means they also don’t have cloth hangers with clips so you need to pack one each time…
Blast! Cut off at the pass.
It was a solid effort.
The cost range of my hotels usually means that those hangars have loops at the top not hooks, and can’t be removed from the closet
There’s people who steal the curtains from a hotel they paid for?
Even the ones with hoops instead of hooks can be removed (in my experience, anyway). Super awkward otherwise.
This has been my experience as well
I believe I did stay at one property where they weighed cost of the inconvenience as lower than the cost of the theft - completely locked to the rod
Bring a set of tools and take the hangers and the rod too, just for spite
Just one simple trick. Hotel owners hate this.
Usually in a place that classy it’s so you can’t hang yourself.
It worked
I’ve also always thought that was a cost/theft issue, but I wonder if its also to prevent people from trying to use the hook-type hangers from hanging things from fire suppression sprinkler heads.
Good point. I recently stayed somewhere with a bolted sign by the sprinkler heads that said not to hang anything on them, lol. Makes me think it happens…a lot.
Keep a couple clothespins/binder clips in your bag?
I don’t always carry my BDSM kit with me though. Sometimes a business trip is only a business trip.
You’re clearly in the wrong field, then ;p

Depends on your business :)
Just bring a pair of side cutters with you. Snip snip and you’re good to go!
Much simpler than bringing a clothespin. Or binder clip.
I’d never go to a hotel without my leatherman with me.
Ever tried flying with it? I wanted to take mine on a flight but didn’t want to lose it so left it at home. Would they allow it on planes?
If you’re talking about tsa: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/items/multi-tools
In general, you are prohibited from traveling with sharp objects in your carry-on bags. Multi-tools (multipurpose tools) with knives of any length are prohibited. Please pack these items in your checked bags. Multi-tools (multipurpose tools) with scissors less than 4 inches may be placed in carry-on bags.
but don’t forget (☞゚ヮ゚)☞
The final decision rests with the TSA officer on whether an item is allowed through the checkpoint.
Yup, the last line holds true. Had a mini multi tool taken because I forgot about it in my bag - it definitely has less than a 4 inch blade.
It’s the scissors that can be less than four inches; it says no knives of any length.
Bring one with you. Or a binder clip, bag clip, etc etc
Also at hotels while traveling … ask for a better room or any upgrades. Worst thing anyone will say is no.
But if you’re lucky to run into a manager in a good mood or even the owner, they’ll give you something just for asking.
I already paid $5 to turn the cable on.
I don’t think my motel 6 has a better room than 2 full size beds and free HBO
They might at least not put you next to the hourly rentals
And miss out on the free entertainment?
But then you have a longer walk
Pay-per-view comp?
I had a guy try to stab me because I asked. I’d categorize that as worse than no.
If that happened to me at a hotel … I’d give up my prebooked room and leave, no matter the cost … definitely not a hotel I’d want to stay in.
I also made it up, just to provide an example of something worse that could happen. But probably never will.

Thats just the usual hotel experience
The sheets were clean. And i got a free fridge magnet.
Ah yes, I also remember staying in Glasgow once.
obligatory garth marengi
Okay I feel a story is needed here
We’re on the internet. I made it up.
I appreciate your candor.
Thank you.
At least Im admitting it. Nothing wrong with a chuckle.
Did you sue for millions? If not, you missed your shot! I chipped my tooth on a Taco Bell burrito once because there was a bone in the ground beef, and I still kick myself 20 years later for not sueing them.
I did. They promised me a harrier jet, but never came through with it.
I’m traveling right now and will do this when I get back to my hotel.
Let us know you’re ok afterwards
I’m starting to get nervous something went wrong
Clamped it around his neck, seen this tragedy a dozen times
Lets just sprinkle some crack on him and get out of here
This reminds me of the time my dad dropped me off at the park and said he’d be right back.
It’s been 11 hours F for edric
Edric was a good person, and a good poster. I remember one time while on lemmy, edric had just found out a neat trick to keep hotel curtains closed. Those were good times. Rest in piece old friend.
He loved traveling. And used periods correctly at the end of a sentence. He never stood for the gap in hotel curtains and was very proactive at seeking solutions. Rip buddy.
I am not really sure what’s going on in this picture
They used a hanger to keep closed those useless curtains that are in a lot of hotels.
Your mom, Ronald McDonald, and a barrel of tartar sauce are just out of frame. I’d look away son.
Please, everyone knows Ronald uses Big Mac Sauce
It’s just catsup and mayo.
It’s Thousand Island dressing.
Dude what are you doing? They’ll come after you
Not with gigachads mom he doesn’t
I travel with a couple of binder clips for exactly this reason. I never thought of using a hanger with clips though!
Yo, isn’t that from Amazon’s Reacher? S1E?
Done this many times. It helps so much when you don’t need to be up at the crack of dawn.
Great tip! My biggest issue is usually that the curtains themselves barely block any light. Light leaking between them tends to be a secondary issue.
And here I usually leave the curtains wide open unless there’s a flashing light.
Ah, an exhibitionist, you do you
