If you’re using a specific embedded system and want to make it pretty, sure that could pose some issues, but if you want to make something functional that matches what a smart thermostat can do, there’s not much behind it.

Except thermostats. You literally could do it with a Raspberry Pi, some 24V relays and a temperature sensors. Thermostats are not that hard.

That already exists with PayPal and Apple Pay for example. The remote site never sees your credit card, just an approval token. You won’t be able to get away from address though as they need to know how to get it to you.

My concern is the application of it. They could see three people in a crowd wearing masks who are legitimately needing to wear a mask and then arrest them saying the crowd was an impromptu protest or illegal gathering and they can then apply that new law to them.

Got news for you, the top 1% != the top 0.1%. Honestly I’ve used “is someone rich?” If they can shrug off any medical bill and not have to change their quality of life. There are literally bills that are 5-7 digits which even someone in the top 1% can’t handle. Hell I’m technically in the top 6% and if I got cancer or another rare illness, my finances would be straight up fucked.

So, though those people may seem well off to the “average” person. We’re all in the same boat unless super rich.
