That is an unusually low number, but I’m certain we can work something out.

All y’all are some vanilla prudes, missing out on the lacrimal ducts.

    11 hole action or GTFO.

a vagina alone has 6, so this is hardly accurate.

No, in topology those are pretty much just indents (I.E irrelevant)

For a hole to be considered a hole, it has to go through an object.

see, this is why everyone hates topology and their silly yet weirdly true rules.

Booooo. We all know what a hole is, don’t bring topology into this. I’ll give you a plate for your drinks at my house if you pull this silliness.

Wait, do you consider cups to be portable holes for liquids?

If you don’t see the difference between a cup and a plate because they’re the same topologically then I’m gonna use them interchangeably around you.

Wait… do holes that meet up with other holes count as separate holes? The nostrils meet up with the mouth hole but then combined they go through to the anus. Do those count as three distinct holes, since looking at each of them individually they would count as a hole? Or would there be one hole with… four openings?

ETA: I have more questions. Do all the openings need to be open to still be considered a hole? Is it only a hole if all my sphincters are open and my mouth is open? If I’m getting choked but my mouth is open and I’m trying to breathe, does my mouth to nostrils count as a hole themselves? Do my nostrils automatically count as a hole as long as one or both isn’t stuffed up?

Yep, they are considered separate holes. So for example. “Mouth to the ass” is one hole and the two nostrils add two holes to the total.

I don’t think it really matters how big the hole is so as long as the opening isn’t fused maybe it still counts as a hole. But really, I think whenever your mouth is open or not is out of scope for topology.

I’m really curious how you got that number? I guess eye sockets aren’t counted, as topologically with how many of the tubes connect, it’s probably something weird.

4 lacrimal ducts, 2 nostrils, 1 mouth and 1 anus = 8 interconnected holes. Subtract 1 (because a proper donut hole needs both an entrance and an exit) and you get 7.

I guess it could be argued that women have an extra hole, as there is a passage through each fallopian tube into the pelvic cavity.

I did consider that in a comment I wrote deeper in the thread, but if you put it like that, the concept of “hole” doesn’t even make sense anymore

OP claimed there are 7 holes. Holes don’t need an exit, and I’d like to know where you think inserting something into an orbit will naturally come out in a person you want to survive the experience.

Topological holes are through-holes. If there is no exit, you could continuously deform the shape until the hole is gone

                The human body has 7 holes” is most likely a reference to [this vsauce video], and admittedly said video is the entirety of my knowledge on topology;

that should answer “I’m really curious how you got that number”, and… probably the comment I’m replying to?

I’m not sure I understand your rhetorical curiosity, but humans usually insert food in their mouth which is then pushed through the entire through-hole while being exposed to gastric acid and whatnot; another example are tears, entering the openings in the eyelids and coming out of the nostrils.
Urine is instead chemically produced by the kidneys, and, unless you consider the space between molecules (which AFAIK is not within the domain of topology), that doesn’t count as one shape traversing a through-hole of another.

Aww, too bad. I actually generally try not to tease about typos, I’ve made plenty myself, but occasionally I can’t resist. Decent chance there’s one in this comment and, just for fun, I’m not even going to proofread!

Thanks for being a good sport about it. For any future readers, the unedited post said “moth” instead of “mouth.”

Hope that, whatever part of your day it is, it’s a good one.
