What is even their problem with FEMA specifically?

It’s like if they were hating on the firefighters for being firefighters

Their problem is mostly that it spends money helping poor people, when all that money could be allocated to further tax cuts for rich people.

Disasters create poor desperate people. Poor desperate people give cheap labor.

FEMA disrupts the natural predation on the worker class by capitalism.

That and they want to privatize every government program so the government spends taxpayer money paying private corporations and they directly profit off it. Tax cuts are one edge of the sword. Directly profiting off tax is another. They do it already in so many places, but it will never be enough, it’s the product of hyper capitalism

There were a lot of conspiracy theories about “fema camps” or some shit back in the 00s and 10s.

Those conspiracies are back, along with them bulldozering the bodies to hide the death count, and of course the super nuts planes/oil rig contraption that is making/controlling the hurricanes.

With conspiracies like this I always just wonder what they think the motive is. Like what would this actually accomplish.

It’s fuel for the cult, it gives them something to fear. The fear of the outside world and its people are what keeps people from leaving the cult, even if the cult leader is an asshole and grifting snake oil to them for what little money they have left.

It isn’t with FEMA specifically. It’s against every branch of the federal government. Their philosophy is called “starve the beast.” They threaten government shutdowns every single budget. Their goal is to destroy the federal government because they don’t believe in it.

A lot of people bought into the bullshit Alex Jones was spewing 20 years ago about how FEMA was building Auschwitz style camps complete with body incinerators. The idea was that any given natural disaster could be used by FEMA as a smokescreen to exterminate large portions of Americans because for some reason he was on some “the globalist elites are going to do a depopulation!” kick, which makes no sense because generally the powers that be love having as many consumerist slaves as possible.

I mean, reproductive and other health care, including medicines are out of reach for most of us, as well as a healthy diet, healthy and safe living space, not to mention transportation and safe working conditions or work at all if you have transportation or health issues, and social security/Medicare are only for specific ages and don’t pay enough, and disability practically requires you to have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel, and many die trying to get it. No one need worry about any other mass extermination program and body disposal is on the family or criminal penalties. Don’t expect the government to handle that either.

The big trend is that some money went to saving undocumented workers. So the republican outrage is that not enough money was available of the 20 billion dollars FEMA had at their disposal to help Americans because all the money got spent on “illegals”. I don’t even know if FEMA money got spent that way, the only money I could find was SSP and that would be 630 million out of the 20 billion FEMA had if it came from FEMA, but AFAIK it was budgeted separately.

It’s too soon to politicize this event. We’re sure there will be time later to talk about laws and what can be done but right now what we need is understanding and thoughts and prayers.
