once you know how to use linux, you can stop fixing everyone elses problems for them.

I know you meant being able to claim “I don’t use Windows” but just installing Linux has massively lowered the tech support requests I get from my parents.

  • I hate Vance and he’d be a terrible President, but he also was firmly anti-Trump before, and only became a Trump sycophant for political reasons.

He’s Peter Thiel’s property, so he’ll do whatever he tells him to do. And Thiel is a weird, evil and intelligent man. A Vance presidency would probably be less insane and more calculating (for better and for worse) than Trump at least.

  • but I am just no sure if JD wouldn’t make everything worse if he got hold of the reins?

Honestly, it feels like the only hope is that things get bad enough for enough Trump supporters (and non-voters) to wake up to reality. And since Vance himself doesn’t seem to have the moron-whisperer charisma that Trump has, they may be more willing to turn on him.

I mostly agree but I think we could maintain a lifestyle that is near Western levels, but done more efficiently. It wouldn’t be the same lifestyle, but it would be a good one.

    I.e.

    • dense, walkable neighbourhoods with mixed-use zoning
    • trains, trams and electric buses instead of cars
    • any job that can be done from home should be mandatory to do from home
    • minimal to no meat consumption, especially emissions intensive meat like beef
    • economic incentives and disincentives to minimise energy consumption and waste
    • circular economies that re-use and recycle most things
    • 100% renewable energy production (and eventually, green manufacturing).

Although even with that, it would be an easier job if there is some level of population decline, but I don’t think any encouragement is needed (societies where women are highly educated tend to have declining birth rates).
