28·2 months agoMost people actually voted in favor of the florida abortion ammendment. The threshold is just unusually higher (60%) than most states. It was close to 60% but just a little shy at around 57%
With a different national environment with just a bit higher dem turnout, it probably would’ve passed
Be a part of that change. Run for local office and or encourage other progressives around you to do the same
Change quite often starts locally and flows up. Those in the national party very usually come from state offices and work their way up. Make that pool of people as progressive as possible
Make no seat uncontested
Organize in every place you can. Beyond just elections, organize for unions, organize to protest, organize to stand with your community, do not given in to the complacency that the far right wants you to have
Power is not be given freely, you have to fight for it. That fight lives on and is worthwhile. Things will get worse before they can get better. But we can lay the groundwork for the future to be better
Find your polling location. Go vote!
Your ballot will be deciding much more than just the president. Even if you did theoretically think both presidential canidates were equal in all regards (they aren’t), then vote for the down ballot races!
Keep your local school boards from having insane people on it that will ban books and harm your kids or your neighbors’s.
Vote for the constitutional ammendment questions and ballot initiatives. For instance, many states have either pro and anti abortion questions on their ballot.
Easily pushed around by dictators and billionaires, not so easily pushed by average citizens
Harris is more able to be influenced by public pressure which is what John Oliver is trying to get at
Also also worth noting that there’s also even phone banking on Tuesday on election day too if you want something to do that day beyond just voting (if you have not yet voted)
Vote, volunteer, get involved
And also remind and encourage any dem-leaning friends, family, neighbors, etc. you know to go vote!
Plus also make sure to encourage and remind any dem leaning people you know to get out and vote. Friends, family, neighbors, etc it makes more of a difference than you might think
Important: If you’re on the suspese list rather than being fully removed (unsure if that’s the case here), you might still be able to vote but will need to show proof of residence. Contact your registrar to check that and ask them about it
If voters find out they’re still on the suspended list after having shown up at their polling places on Election Day, they can still vote after they complete a “statement of residence” form.
Voters with suspended status who may have moved to other counties will be required to vote in the counties where they previously resided or may be asked to submit provisional ballots.

Also as a note in general:
As far as I can tell kamalahq account posts the same twitter posts to their threads account. So you can avoid going to twitter by just looking for the exact same post on threads
Maybe not what you intended, but the phrasing there sounded a lot like saying that. “ignore all of those without it mattering” sounds like saying those topics themselves don’t matter. That’s how I ended up reading it
That’s not what I am responding to. I am responding to the claim of someone saying politics don’t matter at all to anyone ever. I find a great deal of issue with that
As a sidebar, voting still does matter a lot outside of swing states. Down ballot races are often way closer than you’d think even in deep blue or deep red states. Those local races also have a lot more importance than people think
