  • It’s even worse than that, really.

They take those premiums, and what employers pay, and all the co-fees like when you pay a $30 copay on a drug that would cost $5 out of pocket (there are many! but you have to research) and invest them.

They make tons and tons of money on all the premiums. So it isn’t even $100k in, $1mil out. It’s 100k times a thousand in, and that $1mil is peanuts by comparison out.

Coupled with the fact that the $1mil in treatment is all fake cost values made up by the industry, when in reality, it probably would cost 1/10th that, to still turn an operational profit.

Not disagreeing with you either, just pointing out the monetary disparity is insanely worse.

  • That way the corpos can try and focus the energy of the low-education religious folks (trying to frame that in a non-disrespectful way as people be people, yo, even the misguided) that live off being constantly angry away from the fact that they all should be targeting their anger at CEOs and instead to some of the old soft made-up topics not based in reality. How long until the corpos spread a rumor that a covid vaccine generated his behavior?

We citizens get unity and the corpos are all proper fucked. About time we did get some unity. We’re darn close.

  • The “Weather Modification Activities” bill sets out that “the injection, release, or dispersion, by any means, of a chemical, a chemical compound, a substance, or an apparatus into the atmosphere within the borders of this state for the express purpose of affecting the temperature, the weather, or the intensity of sunlight is prohibited.”

So, taking it at the closely-adjacent letter like how Repub trash interprets everything, all industry in the entire state must cease, including power generation.

  • Using modern tech with its associated crappy software lifecycle to save cost is a heavy gamble, however. Instead of breaking Reddit for a couple of hours, they can’t fire their RCS thrusters to avoid collision with space junk because some stupid NPE that was missed in the QA process that no longer exists because that team was replaced with AI.

  • The one time I ever had an outage on my municipal fiber ISP 8 years ago, shortly after install, was just that the installers misaligned the fiber in the port outside. At 4 or so in the morning, I randomly woke up (I think I sensed the internet went out) and Internet was dead for an hour or so.

Next morning, 11am, city truck rolls up, fixes the fiber, and leaves. I never filed a ticket or anything. Hasn’t blinked since. I asked them how that worked. They said, the low light was alerted on their end and a service ticket was auto-generated.

Early on, Netflix (back when it was worth paying for) wasn’t working one day on the fiber, since we had recently migrated from DSL with 800kbps uplink that would starve out voice calls while browsing TV for a show. I assumed it was the muni ISP. No, it was Netflix themselves, for everyone.

It’s weird having Internet as a utility, as it should be. It just always exists and works.
