Are you on Android? I selected something a while back that stopped Google’s proprietary messaging system for sms, and it dropped all of my group chats. I had to be readded to them

Those are the sort of parents I left in the past, I feel you with a lot of that.
As for the grandkids, feel free to use my excuse. “I can’t afford them”. (Partially because I have to support one of them, but also kids are freaking expensive). So they can whine about not having grandchildren all they want. Kids are now 800k+, who can do that?
We’re in a pretty nice bubble here on Lemmy and the fediverse. There’s a LOT of bootlickers who happily want him convicted
Very rational take. You learn entering the world that every company has a dark side, and every person has a line, but that line shifts.
Personally I’d avoid Lockheed, but when it comes to paying the mortgage, the bank is surprisingly not very amenable to me not having a job. I’d love to avoid working at any bad company, but I’d probably have to sell my house and live out of a studio, and my family would suffer for it.
So I give some graces. For example, people shame folks who work at amazon, but Amazon pays the bills. What I personally have changed to is judging people for being gung ho about a company, happy with what the company is doing, or are they just there as a job. If you’re in accounting and you just loooove working for Amazon and think they do no wrong, then yes I judge a lot

Hey, now you sound like them!
Sure and that’s fine, but then we need to stop as a society assuming that generational wealth is a thing, and that parents will help their children. Parents do not help with down payments like they used to, or with other major life events, and so we need to assume everyone is starting from zero
Well that’s the question now isn’t it! But I’m sure I’ll be a failure if I’m unable to take care of (pay for) them
Big reason I’m not having kids. Oh I’m only starting to feel relatively stable in my late 30s?! Why would I ruin that now, kids cost well over 800k, I can’t afford my house and one kid, let alone 2
All they did was stop their once a week Starbucks and they became executives!
Yeah where do we find these interesting jobs? Is there a guy handing them out somewhere?
But maybe that could happen to YOU, so don’t pay too much attention to how much you’re getting screwed, because you’ll totally be a CFO in just a few more years of work!
Agreed, and I’ve seen way more coming out just because the pay is decent vs just having a passion for it. I’ve noticed they are usually looking for the quickest way out of programming and into management too.
It’ll only get worse. Part of being in the corporate world is seeing it normalized so much, but then also you won’t ever make a decent living unless you’re in the corporate world. We’re hurtling towards a cyberpunk dystopia, but there’s more than likely not much you individually you can do.
Even the major push for computer science you’re seeing is thanks to FAANG companies pushing for more students to enter the field, not to give them a better living, but to flood the market so this exact thing happens, too much talent so they can pay them less.
Find something, get paid, and make a living for yourself. Corporate world sucks, but we’re forced into it
I graduated in 2009 and my school didn’t teach us
No idea, I’ll leave that to others, but I’ll say that this meme is about as laughable as Israel saying Palestine is causing all the violence. I’ll concede that Palestine started this specific thing, but no where nearly the magnitude that Israel retaliated with. (And even that’s debatable). I’m just sick of these places trying to swap the narrative. No, if you want peace, you can achieve that today! Just… Stop the aggression and done! It’s over!
Agreed. Amortized it much cheaper but when you have an empty kitchen with only a box of macaroni and cheese, getting groceries can feel very expensive.
Correct! The way to get peace really is so simple that a 7 year old could have thought of it!
Got it. So for that instance, a great way to have peace would for be for them not to do that.
A great way to have peace right now would be for Russia to leave. Like a great way for there to have peace would be for everyone to just… Have peace. Easy peasy.
Always some annoying bullshit at the end
