my first computer didn’t come with Internet Explorer. yes there was a time when Microsot didn’t automatically pack in their browser. Instead I had Netscape.

the problem was I wanted to play X-Wing vs Tie Fighter online faster than having to directly ask people to play and asking for their IP address. For that I needed Microsofts Internet Gaming Zone. The problem was it didn’t work on Netscape and only worked on Internet Explorer.

It took me 8+ hours to download IE and I had to pray to whatever god was out there that A. no one called and B. no one needed to make a call…for 8+ hours.

my parents eventually got a second phone line just for the internet cause I was on it so much they were missing calls.

my go to was Fark. I know it still exits and maybe I’ll start using it again but man that site was great.

he didn’t pay for the bread bites though. OP says he’d use 20 points every time to get free bread bites. So he would pay the for the pizza but not the bread bites. he ordered both at the same time. He would get 60 points automatically because he ensured the delivery would be slow on purpose.

So if he was doing that every order, he’s making a point profit of 40 per order. Eventually he would have enough points built up to not even pay for the pizza AND bites.

showing my age here but 15 years ago when I used to go out all the time 10% used to be “you’re doing a great job” and now, apparently, it’s “service was shite” and 15% was “service was absolutely amazing”.

I don’t go out to bars or restaurants anymore since I got sober so It’s good to know that if I do in the future I need to tip more than what I’m accustomed to.

a couple years ago this happened in Canada. our banks use something called “interac” which is used on debit cards for payment. it went down. also a couple banks went down too. Happened on a Friday thus…payday. Many peoples direct deposits didn’t go through or failed to show up. you couldn’t buy anything at a store with your debit card regardless of who you banked with. couldn’t even draw out cash from an ATM.

yeah that’s what I’m using. I have snapshots set up to automatically be taken. at first it wasn’t because I didn’t realize the cronie service wasn’t enabled, but now it’s all good. takes a snapshot monthly, 3 times daily, and at boot.

This was one of the main reasons I made the switch.

when I was using win10/11 for whatever reason once or twice a year, always at least once a year, the wifi on my laptop would just working. just wouldn’t connect to anything. sometimes doing a hardreset would work but usually it wouldn’t. even uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers did nothing. Nope Windows would just randomly decide that this thing isn’t worth it’s salt and wouldn’t acknowledge it’s existance. the ONLY fix was to reinstall the OS. It’s not like I was doing anything, just Windows deciding it didn’t want to work.

Now on Linux everything just works. if I have issues it’s because of my own doing and they’re easy to work cause I know what I did wrong. worse comes to worse I got auto backups and just need to reinstall which takes all of like 5min. Or I can use it as an excuse to try another distro.

That’s my biggest issue, I’m just so addicted to tweaking the thing now that it’s a dangerous rabbit hole to go down cause I know i’ll end up breaking something. It’s fun though. Just constantly tweaking and adjusting to get it “just right”.

I’m lucky where I’ve been able to get everything I need to work on Linux. It’s also very simple to get the stuff that I thought was windows only to work on Linux. Hell I was able to get some random Elden Ring program needed for a mod to work.

Thankfully though it’s not hard to find what will and won’t work on Linux. I’m on an Arch distro so AUR is a life saver. I’d say 8 or 9 times out of time someone has already got a repo for what I need.

nope, haven’t had any issues with wifi. in fact it works better now than it did on Windows. On windows every so often I’d have to reinstall the OS simply because the wifi stopped working regardless of reinstalling drivers.

On linux haven’t had that issue at all and if anything it’s more reliable.

my daily driver is a laptop and I haven’t had any issues with drivers. I have an Nvidia GPU and it’s been fine. if anything you can partion out your drive and give a linux distro a go to see how you like it. Linux Mint is painfully easy to install. I’m on CachyOS which is a little more “advanced” but not by much and it’s just as easy to install.

in all honesty with the options you have available these days, and easy options at that like installing Linux Mint or Windows ReviOS I don’t think people have any right to complain about windows. When installing Linux is just as easy and actually EASIER than installing windows then just switch already. “but my windows programs won’t work on Linux.” Guarantee you most will as long as they’re not named adobe. Hell you can even run .exe’s on linux now.

at the very least use ReviOS so iti’ll remove onedrive, copilot, edge, etc. But there’s no point in complaing about onedrive or copilot or the ads or them tracking you when you can switch your OS.

you can remove it. use ReviOS with Windows. removes onedrive, co-pilot, edge, ads, and a bunch of other bloatware. also prevents tracking.

just wait a bit for ublock to update their scrips/feed then it’ll work again.

happens to me every now and again, at least on windows, but then I switched to linux and it just stopped happening. Hell I don’t even get ads on Twitch anymore when I would all the time regardless of what extentions I used on windows.

I used to live in the Southwest US like 20+ years ago and went to high school there. ICP was huge at my school but once people graduated they stopped listening to them for whatever reason.
