You can also use WSL to get a full Linux there. If WSL1 is still available, it would be better for this use case.

Nix. The idea behind it is excellent, but the language sucks.

I mean, Linux is the operating system pretty much all servers run. There’s probably many more machines running Linux than Windows. Sure, a new category of viruses would find its way over to Linux, but overall the security is good.

Not saying Windows sucks in that regard. But Windows sometimes just creates a stupid attack surface in their chase of squeezing every penny out of you.

Yeah, I’ve got it configured well enough, but this is a project I took over from an ex-coworker. It’s overly “clever” and complicated, so untangling that mess is gonna take a while and I didn’t really wanna start it before the end of the year. But I had to do some work on that project and the cache that slows deployment down was just the latest of the gifts he left us.

Basically, to avoid pulling and pushing docker images, he exports them to some archive that gets stored in the cache and loaded into docker on restore. Sounds smart, right? To achieve the lowest traffic, the compression algorithm is fucking aggressive and takes more than the rest of the job. As a bonus, we store the cache in S3, so the pull and push of the docker image pretty much still happens, except much slower.

Why didn’t they actually do something about it? As I said, republicans want to take away abortions and democrats want to blackmail you into voting for them because otherwise abortions will be banned.

Well, let’s see how it unfolds, I still think democrats are the lesser evil, so I’m not very happy about Trump being elected because, like it or not, the US is too big to ignore wherever in the world you live.

Again, this is a foreigner view. Maybe it’s different when you actually live there, though I doubt it. But from my point of view, both parties suck extremely and unless you somehow manage to get a 3rd party to win, you’re fucked for eternity. Both parties have no reason to make anything better if they know you’ll vote for one of them anyway.

You Americans are really weird in that regard. As a foreigner, both your parties are fucking horrible. To demonstrate what I mean: one party wants to ban abortions, the other party says that unless you vote for them, the bad guys will take away your abortions and then they proceed to do absolutely nothing about it.

So yeah, one of your parties is almost cartoonishly evil, the other is plain old adult-level evil.
