If any minority group was being systemically oppressed, I would absolutely love if the shows and games my children were into included messaging of the problem and how every human is inherently equal.

And you may think your wording is hyperbole, but trans people are actually being exterminated in parts of the world and imprisoned in others, and are actively having their rights and legal identities taken away in the US as well.

People upset about seeing trans messaging are the same people who would say “i don’t care about people being gay but stop shoving it down my throat” when they saw one gay couple kiss on tv that month while also seeing 100 straight couples kissing.

Are you okay having the tables flipped and someone calling you “sis”?

Using male language as the default may not bother you and you may have no ill intent with it, but it does have a history tied to it. A history where women were seen as less than and didn’t have equal rights. Western society still uses male language slang regardless of gender (hey guys, dude, bro, bruh) and it all stems from a history of a patriarchal society. Every time we say, “hey guys” to refer to a mixed-gender group, we perpetuate patriarchy, whether we intended to or not.

Legally and overall culturally, women are still seen as less than and we still don’t have equal rights (e.g. divorce and abortion law).

  • That’s when you hope your state has a bureau of insurance or something similar that you can complain and appeal to, and then hope that the person assigned to your case isn’t prejudiced against the procedures in question, such as reproductive care or trans-related care, or isn’t prejudiced against you for being pretty much any minority.

What a mindfield to navigate when we’re at our most vulnerable.

  • Media licensing has been the greatest boost to profits for Lego while simultaneously causing a shift away from creative/imaginative building. Meaning, more people (adults) than ever are buying lego sets but they build what’s on the box and then it sits on a shelf forever, instead of modifying the initial build or taking it apart and making something new.

I’m not trying to criticize anyone’s hobby, and I too have purchased an expensive licensed lego set, built it, and let it collect dust on my shelf. It’s such an expensive way to get or build a model of something though. I much prefer making my own creations. And i could take apart this cool, big, expensive batmobile, but I don’t because it reminds me of a movie i like. Contrast this with my lego space sets, which i took apart almost immediately after building in order to build an even cooler, bigger space station with.

Oh my god when i was a kid it took me like two YEARS to get all the chaos emeralds in Sonic 1! That’s an eternity in kid time.

There were no save states or anything like that. I failed so many times…but one day I finally did it, i finally got all of them, and on that day I was a god.
