The provider of the SIM on the old phone who provides the phone number, and data brokers associated with them, will never be able to associate that number with my actual location, because the old phone will be in a static location.

The provider of the SIM in my main phone will have a number that is never used, and it’s location can never be tied to the number that is actually used because the old phone relays VI’s matrix.

Is it better than avoiding SMS altogether? No. Does it obfuscate? Yes.

I also plan on having VNC on the old phone for running banking apps that GrapheneOS may not support in the future.

Wondered if there was a good FOSS Loom out there. Will give this a shot.

It can also be different seller stock. If the seller isn’t amazon, their inventory could have arrived at a different warehouse after your order.

If it’s amazon specific, it could also be the close warehouse had no stock at order time, so yours is coming from farther away, but then stock arrived at the local warehouse (I.E. just timing not demand).

• Get a SIM
• Grab an old Android phone
• Relay SMS to Matrix via the SMS bridge

I already use Matrix bridges for Signal, Discord, IRC, etc, so this means the number is never tied to my location, but I can use it for things like banking 2FA.

Yea, had to cancel my up vote when I realized this. No reason to push more of this into the world.

Unfortunately it’s a double edged sword. If you always leave early, hosts may think you don’t like coming, and stop inviting you, too. Especially if you leave before something that requires more people, like a planned game.

OnlyOffice is super easy to integrate with Nextcloud, and was their original office selection prior to the commercial opportunities with Collabora.

Also, OnlyOffice is built specifically for web rending, while Collabora is a pseudo VNC session. There are advantages and disadvantages to this, but they are very different systems under the hood.

I feel exactly the same way. The whole mobile editing patch thing was a huge mistake (you’ve seen the other comments so I won’t rehash).

That being said, I still run it alongside Nextcloud. I only use LibreOffice for Draw and REALLY large spreadsheets now.

Just keep in mind SearX isn’t around anymore, as it’s been replaced by SearXNG.
