For April Fools, Cards Against Humanity was literally selling diamond studded potatoes for $69.99 (USD) - and claimed a $1000 value, which I’m sure they would be at retail prices.

The FAQ said they had thousands of them, but I didn’t get there in time.

  • Before I proposed, my (now)wife and I discussed this and we did some research, then went with Moissanite.

She has a ring with a huge very shiny stone that doesn’t break when it hits something, and we both also still have some money left.

It’s awesome that all these other options exist as well!

(Similarly, we got married at home with a friend as an officiant* and only close family present. It was great.

*He had earlier gotten himself ordained by mail so he could officiate the wedding of his own daughter.)

  • I found out about it just by searching for sleep apnea surgery or some such. Then I got a referral for a sleep study I think and from there a referral to the particular doctor who evaluated me and later did the surgery.

The way it works is stimulating a nerve that triggers a muscle that moves my tongue forward, and it does so once every few seconds (meant to match my breaths I think).

The remote is used to turn it on (with a delay so I fall asleep before it actually starts), delay it if I wake up in the night, and turn it off in the morning. Also controls the intensity which has to be enough to work but not wake me up.

  • Just in case…

When they said “7 ounces / just under a cup.” that’s not a particular physical cup. A “cup” is an exact measure in the US, it’s 8 fluid ounces, which is 236.5882365 milliliters precisely.

Even if the US does go metric, it will take a lot longer than 50 years for people to not know how big a cup is, all measuring tools in every kitchen are marked for them and the other common units like tablespoons and teaspoons*, and virtually every recipe uses them.

    *I wish I was joking.
