Hah, that sucks. My bank app let me log in without a password on my new phone just using the new fingerprint on the new phone, because I transferred the app from the old phone. Course, they recently limited cross account transfers to $100 because they’re seeing lots of fraud. No shit, right?

I haaaaaate progressive muscle relaxation. They made us do it in school when I was little and I have a mental block about it. I’ve had success with guided meditations on an app called insight timer. I’ve also had success with the worry box technique. If I decide I’m not going to deal with something till another time it goes into the worry box.

I had an account with a bank that got bought. Always used the app, which worked fine, but I needed some document I could only get from the website. Go to log in and it gives me all sorts of weird errors. Support made me reset my password, all that stuff. I figured it out. Old bank would let you log in with email or username. New bank only let you log in with username, except it had dropped old bank’s username and put the email in the username field in their database. The website scrubbed emails from that field, and so it submitted a null username. The app didn’t l, so it let me log in. Weirdest issue I’ve ever had with a service and actually figured it out.

Hairstyle is a big part of most people’s identity, and a disease, or anyway it’s treatment, strips it away. People shave because their hair falls out like their body is just giving up. With the hair goes the ability to keep your sickness private. Everyone you know, and most people you come into contact with will know you’re going through something big, and they will treat you differently. You’re not you anymore. You’re sick. Friends or family might try to show you it’s not such a big deal by shaving their own heads, but strangers won’t do that.

Let’s contrast that with trump. His body isn’t failing anymore than it already was. This doesn’t strip him of his identity. If anything it solidifies it. This doesn’t change the way people interact with him. This doesn’t divulge any information about him that wasn’t already public, by his own choice. Given his obvious insecurities, we would know if his ears were one of them and they are not. These people have no personal relationship with him. This isn’t about making him feel better. It’s about these people’s own identity and demonstrating group solidarity.

I believe solokeys are open source. I use a solo v1 for sudo, ssh, and two factor websites. They either went out of business or are basically defunct as I understand it, but you can pick them up on crowd supply. I wouldn’t get the v2, supposedly they had problems and that’s why they shut down. You likely won’t see updates, but they do function for what you’re looking for. There are some that are shaped like a small thumb drive and some that sit almost flush with a USB port. Some have nfc, which is useful for phones. Buy at least 2 though, and register both for everything, because you don’t want to lock yourself out of something.

This is going to get so Florida, so I’m sorry. Most of the people I know who carry daily carry guns without safeties, so that just wouldn’t work. Also, it’s literally a mark of distinction between “responsible gun owners” and irresponsible ones that before the alcohol comes out all the guns are made conspicuously safe, unless the person is a designated non drinker. They would take on the unspoken responsibility of being armed and vigilant for the rest of the group. I don’t disagree. My problem is not with their choice of monetizing sync. My problem is with their choice to package a web app for Android and desktop, provide that same web app for self hosting, but not allow you to store the data in the web app. In the discussions on GitHub they claim it’s just something they can’t tackle right now, or whatever. No. It’s functionality that was specifically stripped because that’s how every other self hosted web app works and the local storage framework they use is obviously bolted on and not well supported by browsers. In other words, they’re manufacturing problems to sell you a solution. And again, that’s their decision to make. It just doesn’t seem like they make good decisions, and we’re talking about an app you put a lot of work and data into.

I do too. My point is there’s already a web app you can self host, but you can’t store your data on your server. The web app uses the local file access framework, which is just dumb. There’s no reason for this except to be able to monetize sync, and that’s also dumb because as you said, sync thing works fine. But they’re making a bad choice to explicitly remove functionality, and that doesn’t make me feel confident about the future of the project.
