  • Surely, some random John Does of some nation, right?

im not sure what youre implying with the last part, ill ignore it as long as its unclear

Remind me, who produces most plastic in the world? Or most CO2? Or dumps largest amount of heat in the air?

What a peer reviewed study across 168 countries named “Keeping the global consumption within the planetary boundaries by Peipei Tian et al. Nature magazine.” found was commented in an article about it:

The richest 1% of the world’s population produces 50 times more greenhouse gasses than the 4 billion people in the bottom 50%. BUT if the world’s top 20% of consumers shifted their consumption habits, they could reduce their environmental impact by 25 to 53%. (550€/month in Europe is richest 15.2%)

(…)The study also shows that changing consumption patterns in just the food and services sectors could help bring critical planetary boundaries back within safe limits. And just last month, Hubacek co-authored a paper describing how the livestock sector is dangerously transgressing several of the planetary boundaries (…)

Its a problem with more than one scapegoat. Of course big corporations create the goods, but theres also a demand by 8 billion people for example to just highlight one

  • thank you so much, this is very helpful really

so a personal ad is all the data could be abused for? I mean meta recently just misused rights of book authors to train their AI with lots of terabytes worth of literature.

Its just a business expense, and so is I imagine personal data storage. Data sciene & full auto analysis catered to your corpo demands could be very powerful and evil in my eyes, idk I wish I could somehow be fully convinced that theres no danger, but I just am not as long as corporates see these things as business expenses and exists like nothing happened

  • Thanks i will look into this.

I’m new to privacy and just want to cut all data selling opportunities for big corpo, does that change or would you add to your response after knowing that? I’m pretty uneducated on the whole backend mechanics, it’s just the possibility of ill intent and the damage corporations can do with such data that frightens me

Your information seems very knowledgeable, so I will be very thankful for more guidance :p

Buying a VPN seems to be something I need to budget in one day… It’s not that easy during these times to get money flexible

  • Id just love to see more corporations being like Mondragon(spanish) in the top ranks (i.e. stock corpos) but I would not want governments specifically to gain ownership forcefully.

So I’d call it regulated capitalism - as you said, just not paleo libertarian laissez-faire as we clearly see how that doesnt work once all markets are established (and even the competition phase was, as we all should know, pretty questionable historically cough imperialism cough)
