Holy shit! This post gave me an epiphany.

I was a cartoonist for the student newspaper, and drawing a funny comic strip every day was grueling. But I did better when I drank a Coca Cola before I started to brainstorm. Later, guess what - diagnosed ADHD.

Anyway, I probably took 2-3 hours on each comic, and was paid $5 per strip. And spent some of that on soda. So, it was a labor of love and foolishness. Also, I was semi-famous on campus for edgy cartoons that were occasionally funny, most of which I am embarrassed about in middle age.

I’m not an expert in it, but according to the Wikipedia link, they score the possible candidates to get down to two, and then they do an automatic runoff.

If third parties wanted to actually do some good in the country, you’d see them running locally and encouraging either ranked-choice voting or STAR voting (Score, then automatic runoff).

Obama outperformed the establishment Democratic candidate in 2008 and became the candidate. It’s not impossible.

No, a better short term goal is to get away from the First Past the Post system. Something like STAR voting. Those third parties would benefit themselves by working towards better voting systems locally.

One example of the top of my head: the collapse of the USSR.

It’s harder to build something than to destroy it. I’d you destroy a system with nothing to replace it, the rich and powerful will swoop into the power vacuum and gobble up more.

I live in a red state, and the Democratic Party cannot even get enough warm bodies to ruin for every office here. The Libertarians do better with their candidates than the Democrats.
