Of course those stories of noble outlaws doing right by the people are fantasy and the reality is a mass of cruelty, rape, theft, murder and violence. They have this idea that they’ll be the tough guy with a gun who can live life however they please because they don’t have compassion for other humans, not the old, sick, weak, and certainly not women, children, or those the work hard to live a good life.

They think that you’re weak for wanting an official body who’s job it is to enforce the rules of society because they love to imagine themselves as an untouchable hero that doesn’t need rules, also they love the idea of people needing them for safety - a woman being able to live somewhat safely through a system of laws and justice upsets them because they’d love to be the strong man with a gun that women have to keep happy and near if they want protection.

Every anarchist autonomous no cops zone instantly gets a gang that act like cops without any of the hard fought and long studied protections for the people - and bigger areas where law governments collapse get lots of these gangs who all fight each other… thousands of years of shitty history lead to the development of established and regulated police forces - yes they’re far from perfect but we need to work on improving them, adding oversight and better training, new systems and organizational structures.

Also look at the amount of people just in this thread who got some lord of the rings prop or whatever and loved it - women not being a homogeneous block of feminine virtue actually have their own opinions and taste, they are to the shock of many here actually just people and are often dumb, tasteless, and obsessed by things like marvel or that one fantasy book that got popular.

One of my biggest fears is being murdered and the true crime podcasts all go into deep dives calling me a loser and talking everything out of context to make me a good victim for their show.

There was one I saw about a girl murdered by some weird boy she knew and they’d gone deep into everything she was doing in the weeks leading upto it, how her diary showed she had a crush on someone but then they went into details about how that guy didn’t like her… it didn’t even add anything to motive or means, it was just an aside about the vixtim being unpopular.

I’ve seen it mentioned on communities related to.suicide also, the desire to climb in a trash bin and od because it removes the risk of being discovered by children or similar. I think the assumption in they’ll just get buried in lamdfil and forgotten about

Germans tend to say ‘ah, our language is difficult but I think you mean to say…’ or ‘we pronounce it…’ the French on the other hand are far more likely to say ‘I don’t understand what you are saying at all’ or ‘it sounds disgusting when you speak’

My friend that’s French born but lived in the UK a decade went back and got the same treatment, the shop keeper literally ten minutes from where he was born did the whole pretending not to understand and acting superior thing - I’ve never known anyone in germany do that. Spain you might get scolded for not speaking the correct dialect especially in Catalan but it’s rare.

France is beautiful and the people can be wonderful but they have some weird issues too especially around language and identity.

For many it’s not the only thing but it’s an important option when something comes up or things don’t go according to plan, when the choice is ends don’t meet so you need to borrow money from a predatory lending service to avoid eviction or repossession or starvation then having the option of working evenings and weekends is a life saver.

Likewise people who work like I do where I can earn what I need to most the time, even do well occasionally, but there might be a quiet period out of my control then gig work is again a real life saver.

And yes there are ‘alternatives’ but once this is killed they get killed too, I’ve been looking at the job market recently and it’s very hard to find work that isn’t ‘you will work to our schedule which might change on a whim and if you ever so much as ask about a week or two unpaid time off you’re out’

They already mostly fucked up gig work here in the uk, my American friends have a far easier time and earn better because we purposely scuppered them so that people can’t have any self sufficiency, freedom or determination. If I was in charge there would be a government body that helps people get in on work like this when needed, not policies to make sure people in difficult times or positions can’t do anything but devote their entire being to finding a corporation to live for.
