To be fair, that is not an exhaustive list of cars on the road today. My husbands passenger seat of his 2023 car is the bane of my existence. No way to adjust the headrest aside from up and down and unless I tilt the seat way back, it feels like OP’s drawing.

Exactly! They are the absolute worst on long flights. I can manage the limited leg room. But why the fuck does my head need to be pushed 2 inches ahead of my back and shoulders? And why can’t those flaps on the side of the head rest be more substantial so you can rest your head to either side at least? My strategy has been to lift the headrest as high as it will go, and usually I am short enough for it to clear my head so I can have some semblance of comfort.

This reminds me of the children’s book Corduroy about a stuffed animal that gets left on the shelf because his overalls are missing a button. I blame that book for my irrational dedication to inanimate objects.

I think for the chronically online crowd, it seems more obvious that this is an ill-advised attempt at being socially relevant. I would have quickly assumed it was a bunch of kids filming themselves voting so they can put the “Here’s falling down at the party” song in the background.

But it’s easy to forget that a lot of people are not on social media or very little of what is trending trickles down to them. 30th St Station in Philly, and I’m sure many other train stations in the world, has a similar layout with stairs down to the tracks. And has benches along the railing. The benches don’t obstruct the movement of people going up or down the stairs, but start from the top of the stairs and sit along the unused space to the sides of the stairs. The line to show tickets forms to one side of the stairs so that while passengers leaving the train can go up the stairs on their right the passengers joing can go down on their right. If you are early to your train, you can sit right there in the front of the line on a comfortable bench, and the line can form behind you.
