  • Software engineer here. I find the petition to be very specific, and totally feasible.

Anyway, this isn’t a true referendum where its text would become immediate law as soon as it passes. It’s a petition that would be presented to legislators who would write the actual law. The petition doesn’t need to be written in legalese.

(Also: if the customer paid them even one cent, then they DO owe the customer something. Also: They should be forced to release the server software when they shut down the servers.)

Except in social studies class. People should be aware of other people’s religions. But each religion should be taught equally, or in proportion to how many members they have. Kids should also be able to learn why people join religions and why religions are persuasive.

The two outlets could be on different circuits, if for example one of them is connected to a switch on a lighting circuit.

Then, the cable will be powering one circuit from the other. A circuit limited to 20A could draw 40A before blowing, causing damage to the wires.

Someone might do some wiring work on the lights, and shut off the lighting circuit, and still get zapped (though most electricians would test it before touching it, since breaker labels are rarely accurate).

There are many creative ways to die to a cable like this.

But does your medical clinic do?

No, they don’t, and it pisses me off. Every time I see it, I think, Well, there goes my medical privacy.

But where else can I go? There’s only one health company in town, and they bought all the doctor’s offices.

Who can I complain to? The doctors and nurses are visibly frustrated with Windows every time I see them use it. If they can’t change it, how could I?

  • Epigenetics is black magic to me. The starvation thing is true, but it mostly happens in the liver and pancreas and stuff. The testicles and ovaries don’t express the genes relating to starvation, even when starved. So how does the reproductive DNA pass on epigenetic data to the child and grandchild?

  • Any regular hex nut works just fine as a jam nut. Basically, a jam nut is when you jam two nuts together. (It is gay, because the nuts do touch.)

And note that those nylon inserts kinda only work once. The bolt carves a thread into the insert when you insert it, so it will be weaker the second time you insert it.

Honorable mention: cage nuts. A square nut, permanently attached to a fastener that can snap into a special square hole in a 19 inch server rack. When you tighten the bolt against the nut, it tightens against the fastener, so that the nut, bolt, and fastener are secure against the square hole.

  • For anyone who honestly believes in third party stuff: try supporting ranked voting at the local and state level. Once we have more ranked voting at local and state levels, it will be easier to push that at the federal level, which is the best way to solve strategic voting problems in presidential elections.

Nobody would support ranked voting for presidential elections if that’s the first time they hear about it. But if people use it already in local elections, and see that it works better, then extending it to presidential elections is a logic choice.
