I actually figured that the coverage for gender affirming care is one of the least awful things about UHC. That said I guess I’m not surprised about it initially not being covered.

Edit: actually hold on, my benefits guide definitely used to say something about them paying for travel to a safe state for care and even some hotel nights being covered, but I don’t see that anymore…

  • If it seems small that’s because UnitedHealthcare is the insurance arm of UnitedHealth Group, which has its own CEO more in line with the other salaries listed. CVS Health, for example, has Aetna and other insurance arms under it, and the CEO listed was the (former) CEO of that top level company.

Maybe the man who famously got rich, spun out a million dollar McLaren F1 sending it sailing through the air shattering all the windows and damaging the body and suspension heavily, who then said to his passenger “You know, I had read all these stories about people who made money and bought sports cars and crashed them. But I knew it would never happen to me, so I didn’t get any insurance” shouldn’t be driving either.

It looks like the average is 11 PTO days a year according to Forbes, with nearly a third of employees getting zero. I myself get 24 days a year with it going up to 29 in about a year. That said I’m terrified of being effed over by layoffs so I’ve been hoarding them like a dragon for the payout, which is arguably way way worse than having a nice federal minimum of PTO days.
