  • Did you even watch the video? He was running away each time he ended up shooting someone. First time he tried to run but got trapped between some cars and was getting rushed by a mob.

Second time he was running at a good clip and he was hit a few times, but didn’t do anything until someone hit him in the head with a skateboard and he fell over. When that person came in to hit him a second time while on the ground, he shot them.

The third was while Rittenhouse was still on the ground. The other person pulled a gun on him but when Rittenhouse pointed his gun first, the third person held his gun up and backed away. When Rittenhouse tried to stand up the other guy aimed his gun at Rittenhouse, and Rittenhouse shot him.

All three times people rushed him while he was in a vulnerable position, the second person assaulted him with a deadly weapon, and the third drew a gun on him.

Rittenhouse is a dumb rightoid who put himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. That doesn’t mean that he is not allowed to defend himself from obvious threats to his life. As for anyone intending to protest without getting blasted, a quick tip: don’t fucking attack people who are running away because it makes it look like you’re trying to kill them.

  • You don’t get rewarded for doing what’s expected of you

My parents said the same thing over 15 years ago, but this kind of shit just isn’t true. When you own your home or business, doing what’s expected of you results in your investments retaining or even increasing their value. That’s why the owner works 12 hours a day, and the homeowner fixes the broken windows.

When you’re just living or working somewhere but you don’t have a stake in it, what do you actually get out of your efforts? Communities of all types, big and small, are held together by the stake we have in them. If people have no stake, they have no reason to care. This is why you pay employees, and this is why parents should thank their kids for doing the damn chores.

Problem is so many people believe that you don’t deserve thanks for “doing what’s expected” while also refusing to allow young people the opportunity to become invested in their communities. This is why the social contract is destroyed and no one cares anymore. Why should they? The youth will never get to be part of their community the way we are. They will never benefit from it the way we do… Unless things change.

  • You’re not wrong to question this. “Gun Violence Archive” labels any shooting (as in literally any time a gun goes off) on school property a “school shooting”. Some teacher ices themself in the parking lot? School shooting. Some gang kids blast each other in the yard at 1am? School shooting. Someone pops off a negligent discharge that doesn’t hit anyone? School shooting.

CNN has tweaked this formula by only including times someone besides the shooter actually got shot, so a bit better than usual but still a useless number that we can’t use to make informed decisions.

  • When “I don’t think this job deserves a living wage” meets “no one wants to work!!11!1!1!”

There are still business owners in my city whining about a lack of workers. The jobs they’re offering? Part-time with constantly changing but always horrible hours, no compensation besides the minimum wage. Yeah I guess everyone is just lazy?

I haven’t seen Andor so I can’t comment, but I’ll take the plunge on your advice.

I think corporate “progressivism” is certainly one of the culprits, but sometimes it’s the creatives themselves who ruin things. Some creatives have even intentionally uprooted an IP like The Witcher’s show, and Rings of Power. Sometimes progressive ideals are merely a shield against criticism, other times it’s a creators’ own ideals that made them ruin things, and sometimes it’s just rainbow capitalism. It’s not a simple issue to talk about really.
