I think nearly everyone in the firearms community realizes how much time and effort Keanu puts into training.

I think the opposite is more true; meaning that people OUTSIDE the firearms community have little to no idea how much time and effort it takes to be anything like what he looks like in the movies. Nor do they realize how far removed the movies they watch are from reality. Suppressors are not silent, shooting things 50 yards away with a pistol is almost always going to result in a miss, your ears are ringing after just one or two shots making conversations after a gun battle impossible, and so on.

  • So either she did and TSA didn’t care, it she didn’t and they blundered.

I haven’t found a story yet that says whether the firearm was in a checked bag or a carry-on and that really matters. If it was a carry-on then the TSA utterly failed. If it was checked baggage though then she likely followed the correct US process but took a gun to a country that didn’t allow it and Australian customs caught it as they were doing the luggage scan.

Despite what you may think it IS possible to legally take firearms to other countries assuming you follow the process and the law at your destination. For example there’s gobs of people from all over the world that fly into Colorado, Wyoming, and Alaska every fall with their hunting rifles. It’s also possible, although difficult, to bring firearms into Australia.

Ultimately the TSA would have no definitive way to know whether or not she was actually allowed to bring the pistol to Australia, all they can reasonably do is make sure that it’s stored safely and out of reach. The rest of it is on the person traveling.

…so now I have a permanently poopy-smelling trash bin that receives weekly deposits.

I understand and sympathize with your frustration but did no one ever explain that you’re supposed to wash those things out occasionally? 60 seconds with the hose on a semi-regular basis solves the problem. If that doesn’t work then you can use can liners to prevent it.

It’s not fair that you have to go through extra work or expense to solve a problem that someone else is creating but its better to take action than it is to sit there and stew over it.

    but I am not.

As the father of a Gen Z Son whose almost done with a degree in Chemical Engineering I can confidently say that you are wrong. There’s large numbers of intelligent, educated, and caring young men out there and it’s been my privilege to watch quite a few of them grow up.

As a man over 50 I’m going to point out that if everywhere you go smells like shit then you need to check your shoes.

  • For instance, suppressing fire; you can’t suppress zombies, because they don’t care if they get shot, and it only matters if they get shot in the head.

This makes my teeth itch. I realize that this is NCD but…

Without claiming outright magic damage to muscle and bone still matters. A bipedal creature absolutely requires certain muscles and bones to remain upright. If a zombie gets hit with a rifle round that blows out a 3" chunk of its spine then it can’t stand up. That kind of damage is easily done with a 30 caliber rifle round (7.76) let alone the venerable .50 caliber. Even the relatively small .223 / 5.56 that’s carried by standard infantry will remove muscle and break bones.

Your average grunt is going to figure out real quick where and how they need to shoot in order to slow or stop these things. If head shots aren’t possible and it takes too much ammo for body shots they’ll start aiming for the knees and ankles, because again that zombie can’t run / shamble at you if it has no feet or it’s ankle or knee has been blown into a hundred pieces.

So when Tommy Tactical or Isaac Infantry mag dumps 20 rounds of 5.56 into a zombie it may not be “dead” but it sure as shit has taken critical damage to its musculoskeletal system and will almost certainly not able to stand upright. Ol’ Mike the Mighty on the Ma Deuce will reduce a hundred zombies into a quivering pile in 60 seconds or less all by himself.

That zombie horde will be a lot less dangerous and easy to clean up once it’s crawling on the ground with all the speed of a toddler.

  • WTF is up with this 24H2 update I keep hearing about?

The first thing you have to know is that it hasn’t been released yet! That’s right, every one of these articles screaming about 24H2 bugs is based on Preview, commonly called Beta, software.

This particular issue being caused because Microsoft is moving to “Checkpoint Updates” so that updates will install faster and be smaller in size.

Right now 24H2 is marking parts of 23H3 as necessary for future updates so they can’t be deleted. This will 100% be fixed before 24H4 goes RTM.

Basically this one is a non-issue. It’s being used as an outrage generator.
