Honestly, that and retirement homes sort of exist to extract the last wealth from the dying.

I think it’s the marketing. Everything has to me monetized or giggified and it’s hard for us to just do stuff for no good reason (like collect and/or shoot guns). We’ve got to justify by protecting ou family from the zombie apocalypse or crime waves or something.

I think a lot of it is whistling in the dark as well. Our powerlessness coupled with hyper individualism and lack of social support makes for some pretty uncomfortable truths.

Plus the grab bag of racism and misdirected class fear.

I had to write a check a few months ago, it was like divining an ancient language.

We, Americans, are INCREDIBLY conditioned to respect authority. On TV the bad guy always gets caught, prosperity and authority is deserved and comes straight from God, there are all powerful forces (God or the market) working benevolently in everone’s favor and certain people, typically white males, are born to lead.

Reality is quiet different, but we respect the system and have a lot of faith that if we live right things will work out. Honestly, we’re a polite and kind people, meanwhile, we’ve created a corporate culture that favors narcissm and psychopaths.

Our cultural imperialism was perfected here at home.
