I love genuine questions and people putting in the effort to love and understand each other better. If you come at me just wanting to argue I’m going to troll you back. FAFO.

  • Nah diehard atheism isn’t really my jam. I’m leaning more towards gnosticism / esotericism. I’m actually fine with the whole Jesus thing I just wanna skip the misogyny and do more chasing capitalists out of churches with whips while getting drunk with hookers. Also I’m actually kinda vibing with the aesthetic of the weird pseudoscientific spiritual shit because I like my placebos to have pretty rocks and starry shit and as an added side bonus it makes mansplainers really irrationally angry and that’s just funny asf. Also technically Christians and Satanists both believe in satanism the same way if you follow the original vein of satan just being the absence of god its just satanists think that’s a good thing and / or the truer nature of the world which is valid they’re just really edgy / pretentious about it and I’m not ready to buy a trilby just yet. I do admire their work in regards to abortion and reclaiming public and civic spaces from religious oppression. I guess that’s the issue though; Satanism is a political stance, I’m more looking for a spiritual philosophy and religious rituals that connect me to a wider community and provide patterns for my mind and body to latch onto for stability and comfort. Satanism doesn’t provide any of that which again, is fine, but not what I’m looking for.

Me catching up on historical Christian theology on YouTube to help contextualize the spirituality of my youth:

I’m loving this lecturer’s depth of knowledge on this subject and he’s right that literally every person who knows that religion exists has some kind of theological standpoint whether or not they even believe in a God at all-

-but I completely disagree that the specific question of divinity is worth even asking let alone debating or worst case scenario creating divisions between people over. This isn’t even me saying I believe in it or not in fact I specifically refuse to engage with that question in any way.

Debates regarding the divinity of Jesus have been overwhelmingly used throughout history to provide cover for ideologies that both directly contradict the actual words of Jesus and which have caused the suffering and death of millions. “It’s fine that we rape children because we believe in the divinity of Jesus!” The nicene creed ruined one of if not the greatest antiestablishment movements in history and was instrumental in its transformation into itself being the abusive establishment.

Now, I do understand that this makes me by default non-nicene, but it’s the fact that that binary exists in the first place that I specifically object to. They’re the ones making it an issue for no reason other than to have something to hold over other people’s heads that requires no actual thought or effort. They don’t have to actually debate theology, they’ve ended the discussion there by choosing a fundamentally unprovable premise to hinge their entire argument on. They’ve absolved themselves of expending any effort to better the world because by saying one passage out loud their labor is complete.

The nicene creed exists for no other reason than to wage ideological and literal wars over so that real good can be ignored or even fought against. It does not improve the world in any way. The nicene creed ruined Christianity.

Thank you for coming to my TEDTalk.

  • It took 300h therapy to cure control my personality disorder and a significant portion of it was Dialectal Behavior Therapy. It turns out when they say that a common symptom of personality disorders is an abnormal morality they don’t necessarily mean bad or none. It can actually often be too much or more importantly too rigid. So a big part of DBT is actually to just completely let go of right and wrong and do what will work, practically speaking, to allow the most good to happen. Perfect is the enemy of good and a LOT of leftists are gonna die on their hills waiting for backup from that moral high ground that is just not coming. Meanwhile I’m hoping the incels notice how much pussy is lining up for Luigi.

  • One time I backed into a bollard on my way out of the shop’s parking lot and busted my rear brake light. I love my mechanic because they understand that a) I’m a dumbass and b) as long as it’s cheap and safe to drive idgaf what it looks like or how long it takes to fix (my daily commute is public transit and their shop is within walking distance of a bus stop).

  • Yeah my parents:

explicitly told me they’re giving me nothing

told me they’d give my hypothetical grandchildren something because (and I cannot express to you enough that they explicitly stated this OUT LOUD WITH WORDS) that they would love the grandchildren more than me. My mother has talked to me at length about how she already likes these people that don’t exist more than me.

Are constantly critical of my appearance. When I tried to wear makeup as a child they didn’t want me to look “promiscuous” (because somehow using an SAT word makes it ok to tell your 10-year-old they look like a whore). My mother was constantly critical of how short clothing looked on me because I was so tall or how my chest looked in shirts because it was too big. Now that I’ve gotten those tits removed and I dress more masculine even though I never even really “came out” as anything because I just don’t care enough about gender that’s also not ok because I’m not acting my gender.

They don’t comfort me when I’m upset. They either tell me I’m upset about something stupid or say that I should be worried about more other things. I worked in Healthcare while in nursing school through the first half of COVID them graduated mid-pandemic and every time I’d mention stuff about how broken our Healthcare system is they’d want to have a “fun debate” about MAGA shit then make fun of me for getting emotional. One time I was sitting suicide watch because a guy kept ripping the ventilator mask off and begging me to let him die. The only thing that got him to keep it on was me summing up the plots of the last five books I read because after the first four hours I ran out of things to talk to him about to keep him distracted. Y’all. They thought my PTSD flashbacks were funny.

My parents are both rocket scientists but they’re not sending people to the moon or Mars. I don’t know how they reconcile a belief in Jesus with arms dealing but I’m pretty sure those dead Palestinian kids are paying for my nursing degree.

Anyway I unloaded the exact content of all those PTSD flashbacks on them, told them their voting choices were going to lead to them dying in a ditch full of maggots, then dumped all the shit my whole family talk behind each other’s backs in the groupchat and changed my phone number. Its been a year and I haven’t felt the need to drink since.

Love me? You don’t even like me. Die alone, assholes.

  • I have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of it is legal, and most of the borderline cases I personally encountered were years ago when I worked for the state. It was less prevalent when I worked for a major university hospital but they had really good HR that were offsite (not buddies with department managers) and well trained in the legal aspects so whatever nonsense they were pulling was always above board. The most egregious ones though, and the ones you’ll read about when they make the news, are the nursing homes, which is work I’ve never had the stomach to do. Now I’m working in a small inner-city hospital, so most of their staff abuse is just against local poor people who aren’t going to find anywhere that pays more.

  • It’s similar in nursing. They keep bringing over nurses from the Philippines, Nigeria, Ghana, and Jamaica (to keep the list short) and they’re great coworkers but a lot of their contracts would actually count as human trafficking on the same questionnaires our ERs use to screen patients. They’re working in conditions that were misrepresented or straight up lied about with monetary and legal penalties for breaking the contract such as tens of thousands of dollars or loss of their green card.

The employers are doing this to get employees who will be too afraid to report unsafe working conditions for both them and their patients. In psych I see a lot of international nurses who did not realize how utterly violent the average US homeless substance abusing psych patient can get (well except for a few who did high acuity psych back overseas; we had a Nigerian coming from forensics who knew what was up). A lot of them come from other specialties like onc or renal and wind up in psych because it’s an easy in and wind up waaay out of their depth with no easy way out.

The fact that this abuse exists to depress my wages at the expense of everyone involved (them, me, AND the patients) is just… Idk. I almost want out but it’s what I’m most skilled at and I can’t imagine doing any other kind of work but the conditions and pay have just steadily worsened the longer I work.
