Yes, this was just a meant to small dig about these debates beeing stupid and pointless, especially on a memes subreddit.

People are taking this way too serious. Proves my point of the original post not fitting a memes subreddit.

I’m on neither side, I just think these kind of arguments don’t fit a memes subreddit, so I wanted to memify the original post.

Isn’t this almost the inverse argument to the android vs iPhone thing? Like the iPhone being (traditionally) more expensive for the “same technology from 5 years ago”? I don’t really have a horse in this race, I’m a firm believer in use what you like and is easiest/best for you. But I do feel compelled to call this one out a bit.

The meme they’re satirizing directly, this one here, was comparing an $800 iPhone 16 with a $1300 Xperia 1 iii from three years ago.

It was pointed out several times that a few of the specs listed were things available on the iPhone 13 Pro, for a similar price point, also in 2021.

Comparing an older, more expensive thing to a newer, cheaper thing and claiming the newer cheaper thing users are missing out is disingenuous.

But of course the whole thing is stupid. People should just buy the phone they want that meets their needs and their wallets. My suspicion is that this type of behavior is the same as it was during the console wars: deep down people are insecure about their decisions and so they mock the decisions of others.

I disagree entirely - the first one I saw was comparing the base model iPhone 16 to a flagship Sony from some years back. This was spot on, and I loled hard. Kudos @Spezi@feddit.org

Maybe the mark is missed for me because no iPhone in existence is marketed as a standard everyday driver. They’re always various levels of “luxury” or “pro”. More comparable to a Lexus or a Lincoln.

It’s also fixed one of the flaws of the original by increasing the time difference. 2005-2024 is a meaningful difference in the market, but 2021-2024 isn’t (unless Apple harped on 2024 specifically for some reason).

A more accurate comparison and one that exposes the weaknesses of the original might be a 2024 BMW vs a 2023 Bugatti, a new upper class car vs a recent top class supercar. Fewer of that argument’s flaws are due to exaggeration and more are presented in the original, which would be a better exposition of truth to satirize with.

Bugatti is a French manufacturer owned by VW since way before 2005.
It has nothing to do with the Italian manufacturer (apart from the name), which discontinued production in 1963.

The original company was never Italian. The founder was Italian, but the company was incorporated in German Alsace, which then became French Alsace after the Great War. There was a brief attempt at a revival in Italy in the late 80s, early 90s, but it didn’t really go anywhere. Today’s company is French and is mostly controlled by the Croat Rimac (and partially by Porsche, which owns VW, which owns Porsche)

Could someone explain how they’re going to drive 407 km/h in traffic jam? Or in a city, in general?

This is me looking for a new ride. Don’t wanna mess with an aftermarket headunit anymore so I’m looking for something with Android Auto

I actually enjoyed the meme but I think because of the analogy’s incongruity it would be better received as a shitpost

Rental agency ran out of the car I chose. Gave me this pos. I banged my head getting in three times before I remembered: this is the worst car ever made.
