I think there is definitely a line from early modern natural state theory to today’s justification of capitalism, although the argument has somehow reversed itself.
Actual natural behaviour is not even important, since we abandoned that some time ago, and it probably isn’t desirable to go back. Its just easier to sell an ideology when you disguise it as natural order.
Capitalism wants us to believe that it’s the only stable solution, because it comes close to the natural order, and that in nature there is only selfish behaviour, eat or get eaten, homo homini lupus and so on. The truth is, this supposed natural state is completely made up and animals and human beings naturally behave much more selflessly than what is expected from us under capitalism.
Maybe I wasn’t clear, I don’t think calling out Rowling’s shitty views is part of the problem. What I was trying to point at was that fandoms are just a means of marketing and people are too uncritical about how capitalism interferes with art. People are getting steered towards “investing” time and attention into something that isn’t really worth it, and the author, unable to follow up the success because she really isn’t that talented, instead clamps on the attention by putting out edgy political statements.
If people could stop centering their entire lives around a mediocre piece of entertainment and letting themselves being spoonfed art in the form of capitalist “Franchises”, maybe people like Rowling wouldnt get this much undeserved attention.
Well, German has almost as many vowels as English and we’re doing just fine I think. On the other hand, French orthography is similarly fucked up although it’s a direct descendent of Latin and they don’t even have any weird sounds they can’t write concisely. So I think its just a matter of trying.
The english language badly needs an orthography reform
Garbage take. Just fill it into a glass jar at home. Nobody cares about the 0.03g of flour lost leaking out during transport.
